Whether getting attention with direct songs like ‘Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole’ or her album ‘I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too,’ captivating with an homage to Edith Piaf or covering songs on her fourth album written by great songwriting pals Beth Orton, her brother Rufus, Glen Hansard or Michael Ondaatje, Martha Wainwright is a beguiling performer and a refreshingly different musical force.
With an undeniable voice and an arsenal of powerful songs, she’s lived up to her lineage as the daughter of Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III. And music is just one of her pursuits. She’s spent time on the silver screen playing characters in Martin Scorsese’s Aviator and in the HBO special Olive Ketteridge alongside Frances McDormand. She’s currently finishing a book ‘Stories I Might Regret Telling You” which, like her songs, is a window into her life without artifice or pretension.
