DIY Health with TCM – Erin Legare-Tremblay, Registered Acupuncturist & TCM Practitioner
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been around for thousands of years and has some wonderful ways of healing the body. This will be an empowering exploration of how we can improve our own health in our day to day life. With hands on activities, recipes and practical examples, you will leave with a strong sense of how your health can be very DIY from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective. This presentation will include an opportunity to experience acupuncture and acupressure as a treatment modality.
Sleep: The Missing Variable – Dr. Ingemaud Gerber, Medical Doctor
When we think ‘Health and Wellness’, what usually comes to mind is diet and exercise. Without good quality and quantity of sleep the amount of exercise and the 'reduction in your intake of carbohydrates' will not have the same effect compared to when these are combined with optimized sleep. Let’s look a little bit deeper into the hormones associated with sleep and discuss healthy habits for a night of quality rest.
‘Stress’ and the Emotional Connection to Optimal Health – Tanya Bradshaw, Certified Holistic Nutritionist Consultant
‘Stress’ has a powerful effect in the body. It can impact our blood sugar levels, digestive functioning, sleep patterns and can even alter gene expression. Stress management is essential in working towards optimal health. We will explore how we can use food and nutrients as a tool to combat stress and its impact. Food can help balance blood sugar, aid in digestion and promote better sleep so that our bodies are better able to cope with stress. Join me in an intimate look at stress and how the food choices we make matters!
The Art of Mindful Living – Leanne Edwards, Registered Psychologist
The essence of Mindfulness is paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, without judgement. Mindfulness has become a buzz word in today’s world but many of us struggle to find ways to incorporate it into our lives. We will introduce the topic of mindfulness and its benefits to overall health and well-being. We will also practice the art of mindfulness through experiential exercises including mindful eating and walking meditation. Expect to gain a greater understanding of how to live a more conscious life.
