ABOUT THE SHOW
«You have to fight, or there's nothing.» – Marcus, The Listening Room
On the fringes of a remote desert society, a group of teenage dissidents search for fragments of earlier civilizations still ricocheting between stars. Using antiquated 21st century radio telescopes, The Listeners risk everything to connect to a past that has faded both from memory and record. On the eve of a trial that would decide their fate, The Listeners must choose to conform, or to strike out and seize the future they want to inherit.

ABOUT THE ALBERTA EMERGING COMPANY SHOWCASE
Since 2009, Azimuth Theatre has been offering its Emerging Company Showcase as a way to support independent producers and ad hoc groups creating and presenting new work in Edmonton.
This year, Downstage is excited to partner with Azimuth to expand their program into an Alberta Emerging Company Showcase. This project will bring together a team of independent artists from both Edmonton and Calgary and will perform in both cities with a week of redevelopment in Calgary to incorporate discoveries made in the first presentation.
This showcase provides support and mentorship to emerging producers allowing them to keep the art-making at the forefront of their process, which can all too easily be swamped by the demands of first forays into independent production. Each engagement is unique to the needs and goals of the company and the project. We provide resources like counsel and advice on practical company matters, front of house and box office support, marketing materials, a presentation fee, and/or assistance with performance venue costs.
We are proud to support Cardiac Theatre’s vision and thrilled to bring it to fruition via a partnership with Azimuth.
