Join yoga teacher Michelle Mattern for a 4 week meditation journey.
This workshop series will provide you with a deeper understanding of meditation, practical and meaningful techniques, giving you the skills necessary to develop your own consistent practice. Each 90 minute session will include practical techniques, asana, breath work and guided meditations.
Week One Foundation of Asana (Sitting):
Our meditation journey will begin with a gentle flow, applying ancient Yogic Sage Patanjali's Ashtanga (8 limbs) principles expanding on limbs 3-7 Asana(postures),pranayama (Breath Control) ,Pratyhara (control of senses,moving the focus to the inside, dharana(concentration) and dhyana (focus and meditation on a point of focus which will lead to Samadhi (Bliss). You will learn why yoga postures (Asana) are used to prep the body for meditation, followed by explanation of the foundations of sitting effectively and comfortably. Followed by a guided meditation.
Week Two Discover Your Breath:
Building on week one and continuing with grounding yoga postures (Asana). We will practice a variety of Breathing techniques (pranayamas) and explore their benefits and how they can be applied to meditation.
Week Three Learning to Still the Mind:
The journey will continue with a gentle asana practice and then dive into techniques to still the mind and go within (pratyahara). We will explore technique of concentration known as (dharana), and techniques to find concentration known as Dhyana, thus helping to tame the busy mind, known in yoga as the «monkey mind».
Week Four «Be Here Now»:
After a gentle asana practice we will explore how to be more present through the techniques learned in the past 3 classes; asana,pratyhara,dharana dhyana and finding stillness in the present moment, which brings bliss (samadhi). These technique will help develop your own personal meditation practice.
