Forsaken Rite Forged in the northern plains of Canada in the city of Edmonton, Alberta on October of the year 2012, Forsaken Rite had emerged. As far as the mountains of the west and the frost bitten plains of the east they at last came together to birth the warparty in its infancy. Though small in number they used the inspirations they had all brought from their pasts to form a sound unlike any they had done before. It was not long before companions came forth to join their cause, and at long last a lineup was formed. Drawing from the lands of the North and their ancestry, they brought forth tales of battle, glory, adventure, dangerous beasts, hearty drinks and jovial times. After many seasons of change, struggle, and friends come and gone, Forsaken Rite was ready to take the land by storm.
Our warparty marches on the northern lands and beyond in search of adventure and glory. Venue by venue, and city by city we crusade to bring forth and share with the world the music that we love so. No genre can truly invoke the same raw emotion, the comradeship, the unity, the mirthfulness or the wonderment that Folk Metal can.
We strive for honour in the heat of battle of every show, we strive for the reverence of our ancestors, for the best of times with friends and fans, for harmony with the natural world. We strive to make a name for ourselves and the music we hold dear, to be remembered as we remember those who inspire us, to show the world that there is beauty and power in the ways of old, and to herald the wondrous and magnificent realms of history, nature, mythology and fantasy.
We are Forsaken Rite, and we invite you to join us in our adventure.
— Cabrakaän was formed in Toluca, Mexico in 2012 and have been calling Canada home since first performing in the country at the 2017 Metalocalypstick fest in Lone Butte, BC where the beauty of the North won them over and encouraged them make the grand decision to relocate.
Their debut EP “Songs From Anahuac” was unleashed in 2014.
Staying true to their roots, CABRAKAÄN‘s music combines elements of metal orchestrated with Mexican folklore along with a wide variety of instruments. The use of these instruments such as strings, acoustic guitars, Jarocha harp, marimba, ocarinas, Huehuetl, and Teponaztle in combination with storytelling of Mesoamerican mythologies (Aztec, Mayan, Tlaxcaltecan, Olmecan) plus Mexican folklore such as La llorona, La Bruja, Day of The Dead and lyrics in English, Spanish, Zapoteco, Nahuatl and other ancient Mexican languages creates a very unique Folk Metal experience. The band’s name is based on a character from the Mayan sacred book known as the Popol Vuh, where Cabrakan was the god of mountains and earthquakes.
Wasting no time in Canada, CABRAKAÄN are currently completing production on their follow up full length album entitled “Cem Anahuac” set for release in spring 2018. The album will be an expression of pride for their roots, history and traditions along with their love for metal and traditional music from their home country of Mexico.
— Osyron is a symphonic metal band based in Calgary, Alberta. The group consists of vocalist Reed, guitarists Krzysztof Stalmach and Bobby Harley, bassist Tyler Corbett, and drummer Trevor Cobb. Bridging the gap between traditional European metal and the music of their homegrown contemporaries, Osyron has a sound all their own.
The band’s origins can be traced back to Ontario, where they began under the name Morbid Theory. They released their first demo, Chaos Breed, in 2006 and performed alongside acts including: Norther, Protest the Hero, Threat Signal, and The Agonist. They recorded a follow-up demo, Harbinger, and released it in 2010.
After that release, the band underwent some changes in membership, scenery, and identity. Moving to Alberta in 2012, the group, now rechristened Osyron, re-recorded Harbinger in Calgary, and released the album in 2013. The momentum which followed was swift, as Harbinger caught the attention of the European metal community — proving a favourite of audiences, critics, and radio programmers.
Osyron’s next goal is to take their sound across the pond in the flesh with their sophomore album, Kingsbane, which was released in the fall of 2017. Kingsbane, tells the tale of a reluctant hero embarking on a journey as unlikely as it is fantastic. A sprawling tale of outward motivations driving inward change, the album spins a tale as rich as the soundscapes created by this quintet.
— Mongol Forged in the frozen bowels of Edmonton, Alberta, the folk metal act, Mongol pays homage to the Mongolian Empire of old. Blending heavy melodic riffs with an array of folk instruments, and Asian harmonies, Mongol wields a sound as diverse as the nations their historical influences conquered.
Mongol’s unique sound has taken them on many exciting journeys, including co-headlining Mongolia’s first international metal festival, “Noise Metal Fest,” alongside folk metal icons, Nine Treasures, in 2014. Since forming in 2009, Mongol has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such acts as Arkona, Kalmah, Tengger Cavalry, Nekrogoblikon, Havok, and many more.
— To The Mountains is a Folk/Power Metal project residing in Lethbridge Alberta! We will bring some thunder from the metal gods onto any stage we grace!!!
