Half • Normal
The brainchild of two Western Canadian audio engineers; Kiefer Gasparovic and Joe Viszmeg began working on productions together while attending school in London, Ontario. In the years following they found influence in acts like Om Unit, Commodo, J: Kenzo and Sister City. Upon moving back to their home towns they continued to grow their production skill as a duo and made a move to create an outlet for their music.
The Half Normal sound is a result of extensive sample manipulation and dramatic audio design aspects. Pushing each other in the studio to develop new tricks and reinvent classic techniques has led to a multitude of tracks that contain emotional melodies, substantial bass lines, and intrinsic percussion. Flexing their production skill and pulling from a healthy knowledge base of electronic music allows the pair to cover a wide variety of sub genres, while always staying under the deep bass music umbrella. Separately, these two men are top quality producers; together they become an experiment of insatiable ear candy that will not go unnoticed.
Jai Benteau has been a dj in western Canada for over 20 years under the aliases J-Byrd, Bass Caravan and now Zephrÿm. «The Zephrÿm moniker is about pushing conscious awareness. The sounds are much different than the hard hitting and infectious rhythms of Bass Caravan. Zephrÿm, although still rooted in bass music, is a more introspective journey into the experience a dj can create for an audience, encompassing diverse sounds from across the globe with modern electronic fundamentals.»
As a producer Zephrÿm’s unique soundscapes blend together elements of world bass, tribal trap and dreamlike harmonics. Zephrÿm also makes up one half of the enigmatic performance group [email protected]
alongside renowned tribal belly dancer, Tanya Lee. With releases on Doyu Digital and more in the works, Zephrÿm’s sounds are quickly emanating into the Canadian music scene and captivating audiences across the globe.
Kay Kü aka Jaqi Iraqi has been turning the volume from a 10 to a 9/11 since 2007, making dancefloors go Hussein in the membrane and converting assaholas to Ayatollahs with her sultry, funky, and eclectic beats. Having performed with the likes of Kid Koala and Tribe Called Red, Jaqi Iraqi is coming out of the spider-hole to frag your earholes with Oslammin' beats and Gaddafully sick treats! Al-Qaedaing aside, Hez-hollah at your girl and Guantanamo on with your bad self, 'cause this is the good Shiite. All you gotta do is hit the floor, leave the Iraqnophobia at the door, and Baghdad ass up!
