Vogue or voguing is a modern house dance originating in the late 1980s that evolved out of the Harlem Ballroom scene of the 1960s. It gained mainstream exposure when it was featured in Madonna's iconic 1990 song and video 'Vogue' and showcased in the 1990 documentary Paris is Burning.

In its modern form, this dance has become a global phenomenon that continues to evolve both stylistically and demographically. Vogue Femme (or Fem) includes exaggerated feminine movements influenced by ballet, jazz and modern dance.

Waacking is a form of dance created in the LGBT clubs of Los Angeles, during the 1970s disco era. Waacking consists of moving the arms to the beat of the music, typically in a moment of the arms over and behind the shoulders. Waacking also contains other elements such as posing and footwork. Waacking puts a strong emphasis on musicality and interpretation of the music and its rhythm. It also took inspiration stylistically from movie stars such as Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and James Dean.

House dance is a social dance primarily danced to house music that has roots in the clubs of Chicago and New York City. The main elements of House dance include footwork, jacking and lofting. House dance is often improvised and emphasizes fast and complex foot-oriented steps combined with fluid movements in the torso, as well as floor work.
