Untitled Art Society is seeking proposals from artists, curators, researchers, and writers for our Main Space, +15 Vitrine, Lilac Festival Special Project, and Stampede Residency. UAS also accepts proposals for projects that occur outside of our regular programming spaces, and encourages proposals of new work.
Lilac Festival is one of Calgary’s busiest outdoor events—it is the epitome of an incredibly rowdy and wildly popular form of entertainment in Alberta. UAS’s Lilac Festival booth is an opportunity for artists to intervene in this widely-attended festival, stage a project outside of the typical contemporary art milieus in Calgary, and interface with a broader non-art public. The UAS Stampede Residency is a two-year program that includes a research year in which the artist(s) are immersed in the Calgary Stampede and a presentation year wherein the previous year’s research is presented as a project/performance/intervention that will be fully integrated into the Stampede.
Untitled Art Society (UAS) is a not-for profit artist-run centre mandated to support emerging art practices and radical ideas; we encourage artistic endeavors that foster and engage in experimentation, innovation, and critical discourse. Applicants are encouraged to consider interdisciplinary and experimental methods as well as how their ideas might stimulate dialogue and contribute to contemporary debate and current events. Applicants are welcome to include projects that are ongoing or that include multiple elements, such as lectures, workshops, performances, etc.
Please include the following materials in your expression for interest:
1. Project Description (Including which space the project is intended for) (500 words max)
2. Artist/ Curatorial/ Research Statement (500 words max)
3. C.V. (Including Contact Details) (3 pages max)
3. Support Material (5-10 Digital Images, Video, Audio, Etc.)
