Join the Calgary chapters of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Canada and Acumen for a collaborative workshop. In this two-hour session, we will be presenting a framework, case study, and tools to help you learn how to build a business model to launch your social enterprise, and create financial value while creating social impact. You will gain a big-picture understanding of the key components to consider when building a business that prioritizes social impact and strives for financial stability.
For more than 15 years, EWB has been attracting and developing passionate and pragmatic problem solvers who challenge the status quo and lay the groundwork for social change. EWB offers its members the opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills, gain valuable leadership experience, and take active roles in systemic change initiatives. Some launch the ventures that EWB supports in sub-Saharan Africa or Canada; some take accelerated career paths thanks to the skills and insights they've developed; all are sought after by leading non-profits, social enterprises, organizations, and corporations across the globe.
Acumen is a non-profit, New York based global venture fund founded in 2001 with a vision to help build a world beyond poverty through investing in companies that deliver critical goods and services in areas such as health, energy, agriculture, and education; leaders who are paving the way for new approaches to fighting poverty; and the spread of ideas that will give the world the knowledge and the understanding to change how the world tackles poverty. Calgary+ Acumen is a local volunteer-run chapter of Acumen whose mission is to champion entrepreneurship as an effective and sustainable vehicle to tackling poverty. We are driven by the desire to increase awareness of the potential that impact investing has to make sustainable change, and to build a community in Calgary that can implement these ideas.
Because this event will be taking place in a pub, attendees must be 18+ and bring valid government ID.
