With an affinity for astrological signs noted on their Bandcamp page, empath consists of a Taurus, a Virgo and a Sagittarius. Rather than butting heads, the band finds harmony in a thick, distorted cloud of noise rock, contrasting angelic vocals with fiery drums and guitars. The lyrics are often hard to make out, but the instrumentation flawlessly conveys empath's struggle between unfiltered loudness and melodic composition.
They’re freaky, they’re revolting, they’re amazing—they’re Leather Jacuzzi. Their turbo-speed punk is direct to the point in delivering the three-chord chaos you crave. Bring a hazmat suit and a sense of humour to one of their blistering sets of good-time punk about latex, piss and caviar.
Paul Jacobs has some of the crunchiest guitars and ooziest vocal hooks around. His lo-fi garage-rock has a grunge-like undercurrent of menace even when the guitars abandon and Jacobs wails without restraint. Toss in a few dabs of psych and some siren synths, and you're at the weirdest party in town.
Crom/Dam is the duo of guitarist T. and bassist S., but it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine their self-deprecatingly lo-fi synth assault as a third member. The relatively new punk act thrash on their respective instruments wildly, while a backing track of near-malfunctioning programmed electronics add a sinister heft to their wall of sound. Having already sold out a VHS-cassingle and embarking on their first regional tour this summer, the game is theirs to lose.
