Interested in playing roller derby? Now is your time to shine! Get rolling at Lafayette Roller Derby's new skater and referee boot camp. We'll start with on-skates basic training at Legacy Courts of Lafayette (10am-1pm) then head to Arni's of Market Square to 'talk derby' over lunch (1pm-?).
This introductory event will get you familiar with quad skating and roller derby gameplay. No prior experience is necessary! If you've ever thought about getting involved with roller derby, specifically — or about improving your personal fitness, finding a supportive tribe, or becoming more active in your community — this event is for you.
Quad skates, helmet, mouthguard, and elbow, knee, and wrist pads are required for all skaters. Check out our website for our gear recs: https://lafayetterollerderby.com/potential-skaters-info/
We have a limited amount of loaner gear/skates available, but you must bring your own mouthguard (if it is moldable, please shape it ahead of time).
Any individual who feels their gender identity most closely aligns with a woman's team is welcome to skate with LRD. Referee and other volunteer positions are open to everyone. Must be 18 or older. We are consistently working to be more accessible to peoples of all schedules and availability. Talk to us if you have any hesitations!
