On Saturday, September 22nd 2018, we invite you to celebrate the accomplishments of all of us that make up CFN; our clients, partners. volunteers, staff and supporters over the last 30 years. Join us and help the Centre for Newcomers celebrate 30 years of time passed, life lived and love given through the joy of laughter. On September 22nd, CFN will celebrate our 30th Diamond Anniversary at the Metropolitan Event Centre in downtown Calgary. The celebration will be a night of comedy featuring Noor Kidwai, with Shelina Merani and some surprise guests.
Comedy offers all of us a way to think outside the box, as well as question ourselves and society, and does so in way that we might not otherwise do. It offers an outsider's perspective of life and our attitudes towards virtually everything. Perhaps most importantly, comedy has the ability to cut through the harshest of truths, while creating little animosity. As a result comics like Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Richard Prior, Eddie Murphy, and more recently Chris Rock and Russell Peters have all helped shape the cultural landscapes of their times.
Live, Love and Laugh: CFN’s 30th Anniversary offers a platform for celebrating the unique points of view that come from the diverse talent in Calgary and beyond. This night will offer performers of diverse backgrounds an opportunity to explore issues of diversity across social monikers like ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, and sexual orientation — all of which celebrates just who we are and what it means to be Canadian.
